Platform Lifts
Platform lifts are the perfect solution for either commercial or domestic applications where space is at a premium. As the name suggests, unlike regular elevators, there is no car. Instead the user is transported between floors via a platform.
This type of installation is ideal for compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) – now known as the Equality Act – since wheelchair users and those with limited mobility can use a platform lift to access the floor above or below.
The ideal lift for DDA and Equality Act compliance
The special design makes it easy for wheelchairs, rollers/walkers, mobility scooters etc. to roll straight into and out of the lift. Non-slip flooring and special safety features ensure that the passenger is completely safe during transit. Plus ergonomic push-button controls within easy reach make the journey trouble-free. Platform lifts are also ideal for pushchairs, or for transporting heavy equipment, for example industrial cleaning equipment.
Typical commercial uses for platform lifts include small hotels, schools, shops, cinemas, offices, nursing homes, pubs and restaurants, museums and galleries and public buildings..
Space-saving platform lifts for greater disabled access
There are two different types of platform lift. The most common is the vertical platform lift, which has its own self-supporting shaft which houses the operating gear. It can be fitted in new buildings or retro-fitted into existing structures – either internally or externally.
Incline Platform Lifts
Another space-saving type of platform lift is similar to a stair lift in that it operates by running along tracks fixed to the wall above an existing flight of stairs. Instead of transferring to a chair, users roll onto a non-slip platform to ascend or descend the stairs. When not in use, the platform simply folds against the wall.
Suitable for domestic or commercial use
Given that platform lifts occupy minimal space, they are becoming increasingly popular in private residences, especially in instances where the configuration of the staircase makes it unsuitable for a conventional stair lift. Installing a platform lift gives the elderly and disabled greater independence in their own homes. It means that they no longer need to move house because they cannot manage the stairs and it avoids having to get into and out of wheelchairs.
In every case we ensure that the lift is fitted to our own exacting standards and is in perfect working order.
